Compagnie Nationale Air Gabon or Air Gabon was formed in May 1977, following the
country’s withdrawal from Air Afrique in December 1976. This new company was formed
around what had been Societe Nationale Transgabon, with the intention of providing long
haul services. Ownership of the new airline was shared by the Government (70%) and
Sofpag (30%) a French company partly controlled by Air France.
Two Vanguards were acquired from Europe Aéro
Service, the first in January 1980 and the second
in June 1983 before being replaced by a Lockheed
L-100-30 Hercules. The Vanguards returned to
Europe Aéro Service.
